When school is interrupted by a Chicago teachers' strike, Booker has a vision and enlists Nia, Levi and Tess to help him start a home study group that quickly spirals out of control. It's the first week of high school, and Nia, Booker and Tess find themselves growing in different ways. Nia tries to join all the school clubs her bestie, Tess, feels like a third wheel to Tess and Ramon's blossoming relationship. Nia believes the apartment isn't big enough for everyone and turns to her dad for help. When the family refuses to take part in Alice and Ivy's safety plan, they try to trick them but instead end up accidentally locking themselves and the family in the basement. When Nia and Booker throw an epic 13 birthday party with no moms or kids allowed, they’re forced to tell Raven and Levi they can’t attend. While Booker and Tess team up to plan their 6th grade dance, Nia worries her dancing skills aren’t good enough for the big event. Meanwhile, Raven starts to question if she’s being a good mom and goes overboard trying to volunteer for the kids’ school. The kids win tickets to attend a special season premiere screening of their favorite TV show. Meanwhile, Raven manages home appointment with her hairstylist who brings along her own surprise, her sister's precocious child, Power.
Ivy forms a Trivia team with friends, but the team makes a decision that causes Booker to jeopardize Trivia Night; Raven puts the Chill Grill at risk. After a vision of unsafe practices at the Chill Grill, Raven decides to run the restaurant to prevent a catastrophe. When Raven tells the kids that Tess can't keep coming and going during quarantine, Booker, Nia and Levi suggest Tess temporarily move in. It's Christmas Eve and the Baxter/Grayson family are trying to make the best of the holiday when a storm hits and disrupts their plans to celebrate together at a cabin on the lake. When the school’s basketball team makes it to the National Championship, Tess rallies everyone to help her host a live telethon to raise funds for the team to travel. With the whole family to compete in the finals of a music competition hosted by radio personality and former boy band star, Chris Springlakes.

When Booker and Levi want expensive virtual reality goggles, the boys come up with a plan to make money by selling snacks at school. When Nia sneaks to school wearing makeup against Raven's wishes, she draws the attention of the 8th grade girls who invite her to hang out. Booker and Nia are excited to be named student ambassadors of their school, until they learn that their first job is to welcome Mitch as a new student. When Raven accompanies Nia on her retreat for the Young Leaders of Tomorrow, Raven takes advantage of the retreat to try and further her fashion career. Both Nia and Tess are determined to win the open spot on The Hot Chilli Steppers, the best Step Dancing crew at school.
Desperate to take Cami to a dance, Booker convinces Ivy to throw a party at the Chill Grill; Cami's plans get in the way of Ivy having a successful party. After having a vision about his health, Raven takes Victor to a relaxation retreat; Booker throws an impromptu birthday party for Alice. Raven Baxter and her best friend Chelsea, both divorced single mothers, raise their children together in a Chicago apartment.
Raven has a vision of Booker and Nia upset over their dad's move, so she goes overboard trying to do all the fun activities Devon normally did with the kids. Desperate to take Cami to a dance, Booker convinces Ivy to throw a party at the Chill Grill. Booker's visit to San Francisco is ending, but Raven wants him to stay so pulls out all the stops to get him to stay. Raven reminds the kids to take a break from their screens as they settle into their nightly routines, but Booker, Nia and Levi have other plans.

Tess feels jealous when Nia starts hanging out with a new girl at school. Booker has a vision of Raven getting fired from her job during Doggy Fashion Week, so he tries to help his mom with her designs. Booker and Levi try to prank a classmate into thinking their apartment building is haunted.
