On our cruise -- a repositioning sailing between Lima and Santiago -- the ship made some odd programming choices that left even long-time Seabourn loyalists feeling bored. And some expedition competitors include kayak use in their fares, which could leave people feeling nickel and dimed aboard Seabourn Venture (you do receive a Seabourn expedition jacket, and boot use is included). Seabourn is pleased to offer a varied menu available around the clock for service in your suite. You may also order dinner from The Restaurant menu and have your meal served, course by course, in your suite or on your veranda. The highlight of the Seabourn Antarctica journey is, of course, the experience of exploring the continent itself.

This lounge was the venue for each of our daily briefings wherewe would learn about the following days activities and have anoverview from the various expedition leaders about what we had seenand enjoyed that day. The excitement was mounting as at last we setsail for our 13-day Antarctica exploration cruise. The remoteness of Antarctica means it sees few visitors, ensuring that your touring experience will be one of a kind. Daily Zodiac landings offer an opportunity to get your feet on land where only a few have gone before while you catamaring the Beagle Channel and kayaking South Georgia Island are other highlights. There's also hiking and other chances to take a walk on your wild side.

The luxury expedition ships Seabourn Venture and Pursuit have spacious rooms that are beautifully appointed and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Every room includes a full veranda, walk-in closet, heated drying closet, and 5-piece bathroom with separate bathtub and walk-in shower. These rooms are more than comfortable and offer more space than most ships.
Antarctic Ships
My twosuite attendants looked after me very well, even surprising me witha lovely hot bubble bath, with fairy lights draped over, waitingfor me after a particularly cold day of tours. The days then passed with usually two tours, often one a Zodiactour and the other a landing. Seats were pre allocated and the middle seat in eachrow was not used allowing plenty of space. A 'Seabourn' meal wasprovided and on my flight to and from Ushuaia a Seabournrepresentative was on board to give an overview of arrangements onlanding and answer any questions.
Take a look at our luxury Antarctica cruise itinerary:
We booked flight arrangements through LAN from Los Angeles to Santiago and Buenos Aires to Los Angeles. And we traveled a day early domestically, spending the night in LA, to ensure that our travel went smoothly. We traveled on the 450-passenger Seabourn Quest through South American fjords to the tip of the continent and then across the Drake Passage to Antarctica and South Georgia before disembarking in Buenos Aires. Nightly, from 6-9pm the Seabourn Club also turns into a sushi restaurant. Serving up surprisingly fresh and delicious sashimi, Nigiri, and rolls.

It also features touch screens showing the ship’s plotted location, as well as navigational charts and scientific information used to help guide the ship on its journey. Sushi was available every evening in The Club, perfect with apre-dinner cocktail. Most evenings I enjoyed dinner in TheRestaurant, together with a few lunches and one breakfast. Thespacious layout with multiple table sizes allowed for guests todine as a couple or with friends.
Adventure Activities
We also had a briefing aboutthe opportunities to take part in kayaking and submarine toursduring the voyage. She provided me with luggage tags; we were allowed a maximum oftwo checked bags with a 34kg weight for each bag. A selection ofexcursions were offered, at cost, for the afternoon and evening inBuenos Aires. These included a panoramic drive, a wine tastingexperience, a tango show with dinner and three tours to places ofinterest outside of Buenos Aires. With over 100 years of Antarctic experience between us, we can help guide you to exactly the right trip for you.
The plan for the day is a zodiac ride across Cooper Bay for wildlife viewing along the coastline of Cooper Island, our first look at South Georgia. Read more about Donna’s adventure exploring South Georgia’s Cooper Island. A luxury Antarctica cruise had been at the top of our travel bucket list for a long time. When it finally happened, Alan and I chose to cruise to Antarctica with Seabourn. All landings and Zodiac cruises are complementary and included in every Seabourn Expedition.
Day 5-11: Antarctic Experience
There was anopen-sided locker, with our suite number on, to keep the boots infor the duration of the cruise. With an overwhelming world of choices, we understand you may need some personal assistance to plan your perfect vacation. From finding the right destination to choosing the best departure date, we're here to help. Plus, our experienced travel consultants have access to exclusive vacation deals to make sure you get the best value for your time and money.
Plus there is the constellation lounge at the front of the ship with live music. This space is utilized for afternoon high tea, afternoon and evening cocktails. The Colonnade serves up more casual fare and is open for Breakfast and Lunch. The colonnade is a buffet, but also has cooked to order options as well. At dinner time, the Colonnade transitions to the Earth and Ocean restaurant. This is a more casual dinner option with theme meals based on different regions of the world.
Plus the room includes upgrades such as heated floors, more plush robes, and a nespresso machine. Janet is a Cruise Consultant at Mundy Cruising, having worked with the company for just over a year and in travel for 40 years. Most recently she's cruised on Sea Cloud and has also sailed with Silversea, SeaDream, Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, Azamara, Star Clippers, Windstar, Hebridean, Holland America, Uniworld, AmaWaterways and Tauck. Her favourite destination is the Caribbean however she's also enjoyed cruises in the Mediterranean, Nile River, Myanmar, Alaska & North West Coast of USA, Transatlantic, European Rivers and Middle East. When she’s not travelling she loves going to the theatre, walking and trying new restaurants. This was where Shackleton'screw took refuge and waited for 127 days before they wererescued.
Designed in luxe lodge style by noted designer Adam Tihany, Seabourn Venture is gorgeous, with faux fireplaces, fur pillows and green velveteen banquettes and chairs. The line’s signature caviar service is offered onboard Seabourn Venture, and the cruise is virtually all-inclusive, save some special excursions and events, as well as kayaking and submarine rides. Scenic cruising of the less-visited waterway affords guests astounding history lessons and raw beauty unlike any other region of the world. The Weddell Sea is a place of true exploration and ice navigation, where you can see more isolated groups of elusive (and eponymous) Weddell seals and ice-hardy Adélie penguins.
Kayaking and submarines do cost more and should be signed up for before departure. The Seaborn Venture and Pursuit ships carry 2 submarines and 10 sea kayaks. I upgraded my room to the larger Panorama Veranda Suite and the additional cost was 100% worth it. Larger windows and more space to relax, a larger bathroom with a jacuzzi tub equated to a blissful and more comfortable stay.
We also watched the super bowl, other movies, and watched our expedition video. The discovery center is also often used for educational talks throughout the expedition. Offering a luxury expedition cruising experience, Seabourn Venture allows you to explore without compromising on comfort. We were advised that it was possible to visit the bridge at anytime; I was shown around by one of the expedition team and had afascinating time. One evening we enjoyed a Caviar Sailaway on thepatio deck and on the last evening we had the Seabourn SignatureEpicurean Event which were both very enjoyable.
You'll have plenty of time to see everything you want from the friendly, luxurious confines of the ship. Better yet, before you reach Antarctica for the six-day tour, you'll sail by volcanos, fjords, and lakes on the Chilean coastline, along with the imposing and beautiful glaciers of Patagonia. And while there’s a variety of incredible species to observe above the icy waters, 95 percent of Antarctica’s wildlife is found below the surface. That’s why aboard both Venture and Pursuit, Seabourn has two custom-made submersibles. Six guests at a time can go up to 980 feet below the surface, a place less than 10,000 people have explored in the history of the world.
Sushi lovers won’t want to miss the snacks served nightly in The Club, even though it’s a limited menu. And finally, Seabourn’s room service allows you to order anything from the Restaurant to your suite during the dining hours -- a boon if you’ve been out all day exploring and don’t want to get dressed up. For the money, the Panorama Veranda suites -- a category that is brand new to Seabourn -- is our favorite cabin that we’ve ever seen on an expedition ship, and well worth an upgrade.
